The
Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee, Sri Amritsar decided to start through
Sri Guru Ram Das Charitable Hospital Trust, Bachelor of Dental Surgery Course
in Sri Guru Ram Das Institute of Dental Sciences & Research, Sri Amritsar
w.e.f. the year 1992-93. The Punjab Govt. accorded necessary sanction for the
start of this course with intake capacity of 60 students in this institute and
Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar granted affiliation to it. The first batch
of 60 students was admitted in August, 1992. Now this institute is affiliated
with Baba Farid University of Health Sciences, Faridkot w.e.f. 1.7.1999. The Govt.
of India and Dental Council of India granted its recognition to this institute
vide letter no. V-12017/7/94-PMS dated 18.8.98. This institute is being run in
a very beautiful 5 storey building constructed upon 5 Acres land with a basement
used as parking. It is located on G.T. Road, Mall Mandi when we enter Amritsar
City from Jalandhar side. This
institute is imparting training to the Post Graduate, undergraduate and Interns.
The Punjab Govt. vide its letter
no. 2/19/2000-5HB3/6431 dated 04.12.2001 accorded its sanction for start of MDS
course in three specialities viz. Conservative Dentistry, Oral Surgery and Prosthodontics.
The Baba Farid University of Health Sciences, Faridkot granted affiliation to
MDS course and DCI/Central Govt. vide notification No. 12017/1/2004-PMS dated
17.05.2004 granted their permission to start MDS course in this Institute from
the session 2004. Thus by strenuous efforts of the management and DR. C.S. Bal,
Principal of this Institute 9 students were admitted to Post Graduate course (MDS)
with 3 students in each specialties through PGET-04 conducted by Baba Farid University
of Health Sciences, Faridkot. Now DCI/GOI has also granted the permission for
2nd Batch in MDS course vide its letter no.12017/1/2004-PMS dated 16.03.2005.
This institute is having newly constructed Bibi Bhani Girls Hostel for 200 girl
students. The Boys Hostel, Residential Staff Quarters and Playgrounds such as
Cricket, Football, Lawn Tennis, Hockey, Basket Ball, Badminton etc. are also coming
up on a separate 6.5 acres piece of land. |
